Insidertips
- Pack binoculars and drive the Bison Loop Road slowly: herds often block the road and you'll want to watch from your car, not approach on foot.
- Bring a red light flashlight for stargazing: white light ruins night vision and the park is one of 13 Dark Sky Preserves in Canada.
- Skip the short interpretive trails if you're short on time and head straight to the 10-km Tawayik Lake Trail for the best mix of forest, lakeside, and wildlife views.
- Visit the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village right next door on the same day: it's a 1920s living history museum with costumed interpreters and a pioneer bakery.
