Raske fakta: Kong Maximilian II valgte denne borgen som sitt sommerslott og lot den ombygge i romantisk stil. Sønnen hans, Ludvig II, tilbrakte store deler av barndommen her og observerte senere byggingen av det nærliggende Neuschwanstein herfra.

Høydepunkter: I riddersalen henger enorme veggmalerier som forestiller legenden om svaneridderen Lohengrin, som inspirerte Wagner til sin berømte opera. Fra slottets vindu har man perfekt utsikt rett mot Neuschwanstein, som om de to slottene fører en stille dialog over dalen.

  • The best photo is from the road below the castle, where you can capture the entire facade with the snow-capped Alps in the background.
