Insidertips
- Flat shoes with thick soles are essential. The centuries-old cobblestone is slippery and uneven.
- The best photos come out in the golden hour of the afternoon when the low light highlights the details of the wrought iron.
- Avoid visiting on days when tourist ships arrive, usually Wednesday and Saturday, because the alleyways get crowded.
- Talk to the small shopkeepers on the main street. Many of them share stories about their grandparents who worked in those stores.
