Raske fakta: Fem lag med utskårne guddommer klatrer oppover en 22 meter høy gopuram som dominerer nabolagets skyline. På Thaipusam drar tusenvis av tilhengere ut fra nettopp dette området på en straffende vandring, mange bærende tunge kavadier festet med kroker og spyd.
Høydepunkter: I hjertet av helligdommen sitter hovedidolen på en stein-Garuda, ørnen som tjener som Vishnus ridedyr, med vingene frosset midt i et sveip over smørlampene. Under festivaler kler prestene statuen i friske sjasmin-kranser så tykke at de veier flere kilo, og hele salen lukter av kamfer og frangipani.
