Mest populære attraksjoner i Chattanooga, United States

Looking for things to do in Chattanooga, United States? Start beneath Lookout Mountain at Ruby Falls, where a 145-foot underground waterfall cascades 1,120 feet below the surface. Continue up to Rock City for wide-angle views of seven states, then visit the Tennessee Aquarium, whose 700,000 gallons of exhibits hold otters, sharks, and river giants.

Ruby Falls

Naturlig trekkEtablering

Ride a glass elevator 260 feet down to one of the tallest underground waterfalls in the country. Follow the boardwalk and feel the spray of the 145-foot cascade.

Raske fakta: A glass-fronted elevator plunges 260 feet straight down into the mountain before the tour even starts. The main event waits at the bottom: a 145-foot waterfall thundering from the ceiling of a cavern that holds a steady 60°F year-round.

Høydepunkter: Leo Lambert and his crew spent days hand-drilling through solid limestone in 1928, and the growing roar of water told them something huge lurked on the other side. When they finally broke through, they named the cascade after Lambert's wife, then lit it so visitors could stand close enough to feel the spray chill their skin.

2. Rock City

Seven states unfold from a cliff overlook, and 4,000 gnomes march below ground. Walk the 1,740-foot trail past a swinging bridge and a 100-foot waterfall.

Raske fakta: Mer enn 900 malte låvetak spredt over 19 delstater viser fortsatt veien hit fra veikantreklame-tiden da inngangen kostet 25 cent.

3. Tennessee Aquarium

4.7 (26,140)
AquariumTuristattraksjonInteressant stedEtablering

Two buildings, one river story, and 10,000 animals make a full afternoon of discovery. Walk through a shark tunnel, watch otters splash, and finish with butterflies on your shoulder.

Raske fakta: Roughly 10,000 animals live across the two connected buildings, including a 60-foot underwater tunnel where sand tiger sharks glide overhead. The river journey starts with mountain trout and ends with ocean species, tracing a single waterway's full path from source to sea.

Høydepunkter: Every day at 11 a.m., the penguin keepers host a feeding that turns into an impromptu parade, with the gentoo penguins waddling single file to their breakfast. Watch from the underwater viewing window and you'll see them rocket through the water at speeds that make their land waddle seem comically slow.

4. Chattanooga Zoo

4.4 (8,268)
DyrehageTuristattraksjonInteressant stedEtablering

Big-animal wonder without the marathon walking, with jaguars, lemurs, and reptiles all on a compact loop. Expect keeper talks, a mini train circling the park, and red pandas stealing the show.

Raske fakta: Roughly 13 acres of shaded habitats hold more than 900 animals across 200-plus species. The AZA-accredited grounds fit an easy afternoon stroll while quietly backing real breeding programs for red pandas and clouded leopards.

Høydepunkter: Walk into the clouded leopard habitat and look up: a fine mesh canopy lets these rarely seen big cats stalk and leap nearly over your head. At the daily keeper talk in the bamboo-lined yard, red pandas hustle over for grape treats and flash their ringed, raccoon-like tails.

5. Coolidge Park

4.7 (7,918)
ParkTuristattraksjonInteressant stedEtablering

Ride a century-old carousel and cool off in a splash fountain for pocket change. Expect lawn picnics, skyline views from the bridge overhead, and live music on summer evenings.

Raske fakta: Only 52 hand-carved animals survive on the 1895 carousel, rebuilt by more than 200 volunteers over several years. The interactive splash fountain and the 2,376-foot pedestrian span overhead draw families to the grassy north bank all year.

Høydepunkter: A menagerie of carved horses and giraffes sat neglected in a California barn for decades before volunteers hauled the figures out and hand-restored every one. A one-dollar ticket buys a spin on creatures that have circled for more than a century, all on ground that once held freight railroad yards.

6. Hunter Museum of American Art

Stand on glass 90 feet above the river while taking in 200 years of American art. Wander from Hudson River School classics to bold contemporary works with the gorge unfurling below.

Raske fakta: Roughly 90 feet of limestone bluff separates this collection from the Tennessee River below, and the artwork inside spans from Hudson River School paintings to a Chuck Close portrait. Admission sometimes drops to "pay what you wish" on select Sundays, so checking the calendar before you go can wipe out the entire entry fee.

Høydepunkter: Step into the glass "slipper" pavilion and you'll feel like you're floating, since its cantilevered floor extends well out over the cliff edge with the river rushing below. At golden hour the whole glass span seems to catch fire, turning your reflection into a second work of art you can't get anywhere else.

7. Chattanooga Choo Choo

HotelParkLodgingInteressant stedEtablering

Spend a night where train travel once defined American glamour. Roll through century-old rail cars, gardens, and a station turned hotel.

Raske fakta: Visitors can check into a restored Pullman sleeper car and sleep where railroad passengers once rode. The name comes from Glenn Miller's 1941 swing anthem, which celebrated the Southern Railway line's famous whistle.

Høydepunkter: Overnight guests climb into genuine Pullman sleepers, where polished brass and original window cranks sell the 1940s illusion. The station's historic clock still keeps time over the platform, and a restored steam locomotive sits ready on its track for close-up photo tours.

8. Walnut Street Bridge

BridgeTuristattraksjonScenic SpotInteressant stedTransportation Service

Step onto a 2,376-foot span with zero traffic noise overhead. Feel the deck sway, watch the sunset, and step off into a walkable riverside scene.

Raske fakta: Stretching 2,376 feet across the water, this steel truss crossing ranks among the longest pedestrian-only bridges in the world. More than 1,000 people cross it daily on foot or by bike, sharing the deck with zero cars since a 1978 vehicle ban.

Høydepunkter: At mid-span the old riveted deck sways gently when a running group passes, a lurch you will never feel on a modern concrete crossing. The raised platform lines up dead-center with the mountain on the horizon, so sunsets stack its silhouette above the river's glow.

9. Creative Discovery Museum

Why line up for Olympic rapids and a real jet cockpit? Kids steer, splash, invent, and climb across three hands-on floors until they drag you home.

Raske fakta: Three floors stack a two-story climbing structure, a working inventor's lab with 3D printers, and a toddler zone under one roof. Retired Air Force jet trainer controls sit out in the open, so kids grab the yoke and pretend they're throttling down a runway.

Høydepunkter: Climb into the river simulator and you're paddling digital rapids modeled on the actual Ocoee River, the same stretch that hosted the 1996 Olympic whitewater events. The floor heaves, spray hits your face, and kids grip the rail until the final drop spits them out laughing.

Hit the chargrilled oysters at STIR if you can swing it. Anything two blocks off the riverfront beats the tourist trap spots by the aquarium.

Came for the hype and left a bit let down. Loads of construction downtown and the humidity in July was brutal. Kids still loved the aquarium.

Small town charm with a big city food scene. Never eaten that well per dollar anywhere. Could easily waste a whole week here.

Really cool city and the aquarium is world class. But the hills are no joke, my legs were wrecked after day one. Bring comfy shoes.

Fell in love with Chatty way harder than I expected. Riverwalk at sunset, cheap beer, food scene slaps. Three days was just right for us.
