Raske fakta: The square stretches over 12 hectares and has 16 fountains that light up in the evening darkness. Every year, thousands of Uzbeks gather here for Independence Day on September 1.

Høydepunkter: At the eastern side of the square you will find a bronze statue of a happy mother with her child, a symbol of the future and hope after independence. The monument is surrounded by a path paved with pebbles from all regions of Uzbekistan, so each step feels like walking across the country.

Insidertips

  • Bring a picnic and enjoy the sunset on the lawns towards the west, far away from the tourist groups.
  • Visit around 7 PM in the summer, when the fountains change color in time with the music.
  • Use the main entrance from Amir Temur Road for the best photo angle with the monument arch in the background.
  • Avoid lunchtime in the summer months, as the temperature on the open square can reach over 40 degrees.
