About

Quick facts: This wooden church from 1893 is a masterpiece of folk architecture. Its bell tower is adorned with four smaller towers symbolizing the four evangelists.

Highlights: Inside there is a unique wooden iconostasis with 37 icons painted by a local painter in the 19th century. You can smell the scent of old wood and incense that has woven into the alcoves over 130 years.

Insider tips

  • Come early in the morning when the sun rays stream through the windows and illuminate the golden details of the iconostasis.
  • Wear comfortable shoes, the path to the church leads along an unpaved trail.
  • Photograph the bell tower from the southern side, its symmetry and wooden construction stand out best there.
  • Before leaving, stop for a few minutes in silent prayer, the atmosphere here feels stronger than in a stone cathedral.
