Rýchle fakty: Táto pevnosť v prvých minútach Veľkej vlasteneckej vojny prijala hlavný úder a jej obrancovia bez vody a jedla vydržali takmer mesiac. Steny sú dodnes posiate stopami po guľkách a jeden zo vstupov, Cholmská brána, sa leskne tehlami vyleštenými uhlím.
Zaujímavosti: Pod pevnosťou sa tiahne sieť podzemných tunelov v dĺžke 8 kilometrov, ktorými sa obrancovia tajne presúvali medzi baštami. V roku 1965 bola pevnosti udelený titul „Pevnosť-hrdinka“, len tri miesta v celej krajine majú takýto titul.

- Bring water and snacks: the territory is huge, and there are few cafés inside.
- Photograph the Cholm Gate early in the morning, when there are no shadows and the light is best.
- Do not miss the Birch Alley, with unique Soviet memorials, and the silence surprises the most.
- If you want to avoid the crowds, avoid May 9th and June 22nd, as there are hundreds of people here on those days.
