France is a safe and well-organized destination, but tourists should watch for pickpocketing in crowded metro and tourist areas, overpriced taxis from unlicensed drivers, and restaurant or café price surprises. Use official transport and taxi options, validate tickets before boarding, and decline dynamic currency conversion at ATMs and payment terminals.

Ako to funguje: Teams work metro lines, near the Eiffel Tower, Louvre, and Sacré-Cœur, using distraction (bumping, asking questions, showing maps) while an accomplice lifts wallets or phones from bags and pockets.
Ako sa tomu vyhnúť: Keep bags zipped and in front, phones in front pockets, and stay alert in crowds and on metro cars during rush hour.
Ako to funguje: Someone approaches with a clipboard for a 'cause' or hands you a string bracelet, then demands payment once it is on your wrist. The money goes to the scammer, not a charity.
Ako sa tomu vyhnúť: Do not make eye contact, keep your hands away, and walk on without stopping. Say no firmly and keep moving.
Ako to funguje: Unlicensed drivers approach arriving passengers inside or just outside the terminal offering rides, often at inflated prices with no meter and no official signage.
Ako sa tomu vyhnúť: Only use cars from the official taxi rank outside arrivals. Licensed Paris taxis show a taxi sign on the roof and a meter.
Ako to funguje: Some restaurants near major sights charge higher prices for the same item on a separate menu, or add service charges not shown upfront. Always check the price list before ordering, especially on terraces.
Ako sa tomu vyhnúť: Read the full menu including drinks before sitting down and confirm whether prices are per item or per person at the table.
Ako to funguje: Someone 'finds' a gold ring on the ground in front of you and offers to sell it, claiming it is valuable. It is fake metal. Meanwhile a partner may pickpocket you while you inspect it.
Ako sa tomu vyhnúť: Ignore the item and the seller completely and keep walking. Do not engage or stop to examine anything.
Ako to funguje: Smartly dressed people collect 'donations' in public squares and near monuments for causes that do not exist. They may pressure you with guilt or show fake ID cards.
Ako sa tomu vyhnúť: Give directly to registered charities through their official channels. A polite no and walking away is enough.
Ignorujte pouličných predajcov: rezervujte si oficiálne vstupenky a výlety s bezplatným zrušením.
Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG)
Spravodlivá cena taxíka (oficiálna, cez deň): 50 € - 70 €. Use only the official taxi rank outside arrivals. Fixed fare to central Paris is around 50-70 EUR depending on left or right bank. Ignore drivers who approach you inside the terminal.
Najlepšia alternatíva: RER B train to central Paris, arriving at Châtelet-Les Halles, Gare du Nord, or Luxembourg (11,80 €, približne 35 min)
Prepitné: Service is included in restaurant prices (service compris). Rounding up or leaving 5-10% for good service is appreciated but not expected. Taxi drivers appreciate small rounding up.
Vstupný a servisný poplatok: Bread and tap water are free by law in restaurants. Check terrace vs. inside prices, which can differ. Menus with VAT and service included are the norm; a separate cover charge is not standard in most of France.
Always choose to be charged in euros and decline dynamic currency conversion. Prefer ATMs attached to major banks. Independent cash-machine brands in tourist areas often charge higher fees.
