Rýchle fakty: It has more than 1,200 years of history and houses over 300 objects declared national treasures or important cultural properties. The main shrine stands on the shores of Lake Chuzenji, while the iconic entrance sits next to Shinkyo Bridge, considered one of the three most beautiful bridges in Japan.
Zaujímavosti: The shrine protects a sacred bronze sword dating from the 8th century, a piece so venerated that it is only shown to the public once every 12 years during the great festival. It also guards a wooden statue of Bishamonten, one of the seven gods of fortune, carved so finely that the folds of his clothing look like real fabric moving in the wind.

- Wear comfortable, non-slip footwear, because the stone paths become slippery with rain or morning dew.
- Walk to the shrine by Lake Chuzenji, it is much emptier than the main complex and offers spectacular views of the water and mountains.
- The bronze lanterns in front of the main hall are over 300 years old and make a spectacular photo during the golden hour, just before sunset.
- If you have flexibility with dates, avoid October weekends when the autumn foliage attracts massive crowds to Nikko in general.
