Brze činjenice: Ova tvrđava je u prvim minutima Velikog otadžbinskog rata primila glavni udarac, a njeni branioci bez vode i hrane izdržali su skoro mesec dana.
Istaknuto: Ispod tvrđave prostire se mreža podzemnih tunela duga 8 kilometara, kojom su se branioci tajno kretali između bastiona. Godine 1965. tvrđavi je dodeljeno ime „Tvrđava heroj“ - samo tri mesta u celoj zemlji nose takvu titulu.
