Hızlı bilgiler: In reality, the Arch of Galerius was part of a vast ceremonial complex that included the palace and the throne room. The reliefs on its surface depict the emperor's military campaigns with cinematic detail, including elephants and exotic animals he brought from the East.

• For the best photo, stand directly under the central arch and shoot upward to capture the dramatic perspective of the arches.
• Bring a small pair of binoculars or use your camera zoom: the details in the reliefs at the top are stunning but hard to see with the naked eye.
• Avoid midday hours in the summer, as traffic on Egnatia Street is heavy and there is very little shade.
• One of the four original arches of the arch has been lost: look carefully at the northwestern side and you will see newer masonry indicating the original extension.
