Quick facts: Over 30 species of birds visit this sanctuary daily, attracted by trays of fresh fruit and homemade nectar. Visitors can feed birds directly from their hands, including the vibrant Red-billed Streamertail hummingbirds that reach speeds of 50 kilometers per hour.
Highlights: Female Red-billed Streamertail hummingbirds build nests the size of a thimble using spider webs and lichens, and you can watch them hatching eggs the size of coffee beans during spring. A local woman named Lisa has been feeding the birds for 15 years and knows each species by name, calling them with specific whistles they recognize.

- Wear bright colored clothes: hummingbirds are attracted to shades of red, orange and pink and will fly closer to you.
- Stay still with the palm of your hand open and flat for a few minutes: the most confident birds will land to feed.
