Weather was hit or miss in spring, chilly mornings but afternoons warmed up nicely. Perfect for strolling through the old streets.
The vibe is peaceful, small but lively. I felt safe wandering around even at night, locals were friendly but reserved.
Matsumoto's castle area is charming, but it got super crowded midday. Loved the soba noodles around town though, definitely a foodie highlight.
Skip eating right next to the main castle. There’s a hidden izakaya two blocks away with way better prices and authentic feel.
I stayed three days and felt it was just right to explore the city, nearby mountains, and some local museums at a relaxed pace.
