Before opening at 10:00 AM to photograph the facade without the crowds. Late in the evening in summer, the dome lights up and the reflection on the Moika Canal is spectacular.

Bring a small pair of binoculars: the mosaics of the central vault are very detailed and cannot be fully appreciated from the ground.
The colonnade is outdoors and windy, so avoid skirts and wide hats that the wind could blow away.
Skip the guided tour in Italian, which is often too long and boring: an audio guide or an app is more than enough.
