Visit in late spring (May-June) or early autumn (September-October) when the weather is mild and the hillsides are green. The annual Water Festival in Lanjarón on August 4th is a uniquely chaotic experience if you don't mind getting soaked.

Both villages are free to explore with no entry fees. Bring an empty water bottle to fill at Lanjarón's public fountains instead of buying bottled water. Parking in the village centers can cost 1-2 euros per hour, so park on the outskirts and walk in.

- Wear sturdy walking shoes as both villages have steep, uneven cobblestone streets that get slippery when wet.
- Skip the main road restaurants and look for side-street cafes where a menu del dia costs 10-12 euros instead of 18-20.
