Best time to visit

Arrive at opening in the morning to avoid the heat and biggest tour groups; late afternoon brings warm light on the gilding and fewer visitors near closing.

Budget tips

Entrance for most foreign visitors is around 200 THB, Thai nationals usually pay a reduced rate; no regular free days, but many guided tours include the fee so compare prices before booking.

About

Insider tips

  • Dress respectfully, cover shoulders and knees, and carry a light scarf for hotter days.
  • Get there at opening to beat tour buses and the midday heat.
  • For unbroken full-length photos, use the north viewing platform facing the Reclining Buddha's head.
  • Book a session at the Wat Pho Thai Traditional Massage school on-site, payments are usually cash and bookings are done in person.

Arrived at 8am with almost no line. 200 THB entry was worth it for the Reclining Buddha and murals, avoid the touristy stalls.

Came at 3pm and it was packed with tour groups, ticket line took 30 minutes. 200 THB felt steep, the Reclining Buddha is stunning but bring patience.
