Plan language: 中文Liverpool is the #5 city for nightlife in the world, based on our data across hundreds of destinations.
If you are searching for things to do in Liverpool, United Kingdom, start at the historic Royal Albert Dock Liverpool, a UNESCO-listed waterfront complex dating to 1846. Tour The Beatles Story for an immersive look at the Fab Four's journey, then walk a few blocks to The Cavern Club on Mathew Street where they performed 292 times.

Follow the Fab Four from Liverpool's backstreets to global superstardom through 250,000 square feet of artifacts. You'll walk through a replica Cavern Club, hear John's first acoustic guitar, and stand inside the Yellow Submarine.

Grade I listed warehouses ring the largest collection of historic buildings in the UK, all hugging a tranquil water basin. Wander cobbled quaysides past galleries, street performers, and floating vessels that tell Liverpool's maritime story.
Dock workers unloaded over 40,000 ships here each year during the 19th century. The first enclosed wet dock in the world revolutionized cargo handling and inspired waterfront designs from London to New York.
The dock's cast iron columns and granite walls were fireproofed after a devastating 1810 blaze destroyed earlier wooden warehouses. You can still spot the original iron tie rods and brick vaulted ceilings that made this the safest place to store cotton, tobacco, and sugar in all of Britain.

Step inside the largest Gothic cathedral in the world and feel your jaw drop at the sheer scale of the space. Echoing footsteps, glowing stained glass, and a climb to the top for panoramic city views await.
Britain's largest cathedral and the world's longest Gothic cathedral stretches 189 meters from end to end. Its 101-meter central tower is the highest cathedral tower in the UK, offering views across the River Mersey and Welsh mountains on clear days.
Look closely at the enormous central chandelier: it's a 10-ton masterpiece crafted from wrought iron and studded with thousands of crystal droplets, designed to represent the stars of the night sky. The artist actually took inspiration from the 1929 total solar eclipse visible from the cathedral steps, so the whole fixture recreates that celestial moment in metal and glass.

Feel the hallowed turf and hear the echoes of legendary nights inside English football's most atmospheric stadium. Walk through the players' tunnel, touch the famous "This Is Anfield" sign, and see the trophy room where six European Cups gleam.

Step into the cramped cellar where the Beatles honed their sound across 292 lunchtime gigs. Feel the raw energy of live music six nights a week, with local bands playing the same stage that launched a revolution.

Trace Liverpool's epic journey from trading port to global powerhouse through shipwreck relics and personal diaries. Walk a recreated 18th-century quayside, smell the cargo holds, and stand beneath a real 63-foot Mersey ferry.
Sitting right on the Albert Dock waterfront, the building was originally a warehouse for cargo like tobacco, brandy, and spices. Its collection includes over 2,000 objects that tell the story of Liverpool's rise as one of the world's greatest port cities, plus the actual remains of a slave ship.
In an unassuming corner, you'll find the actual muster roll from the slave ship Zong, whose 1781 massacre of 133 enslaved people forced overboard sparked the abolition movement. It's one of the most emotionally charged historical documents in Britain, displayed alongside a recreated hold that lets you feel the claustrophobic darkness and smell of pitch and sweat.

Step inside one of Europe's finest neoclassical buildings with a floor made of 30,000 handmade tiles. You'll stand in a hall where Charles Dickens once performed and where court trials still echo through the corridors.
Its Great Hall floor features 30,000 tiles laid in a checkerboard pattern, and the entire building was saved from demolition in the 1950s after a public campaign. The Minton tile floor is so massive that it takes a team of conservators several weeks just to clean it.
The Minton tile floor is actually hollow underneath, built on a sprung wooden frame that gives it a slight bounce as you walk across. During restoration, conservators discovered the floor had been designed to be lifted and moved so the space below could be used as a ballroom.

Travel from ancient Egypt to outer space without leaving the building. Climb Roman artifacts, marvel at dinosaur fossils, then stargaze in the planetarium.
The building houses over one million objects spanning 4.5 billion years, from meteorites to mummies. Its four floors pack ancient Egyptian artifacts alongside a planetarium and a dedicated bug house with live creepy-crawlies.
The second-floor Egyptian gallery holds over 1,000 artifacts, including real mummies and a full-scale replica of a tomb passage that makes you feel like an explorer. You can literally walk through a recreated Egyptian marketplace and hear the sounds of a bustling ancient souk.
Escape into 235 acres of Victorian parkland where a glass Palm House and fairytale bridge await. Wander past the boating lake, discover the Peter Pan statue, and lie back on the sprawling grass for sunset.

A bold modern art collection housed in a converted 1840s warehouse on Liverpool's historic waterfront. Wander through galleries filled with British contemporary art, then grab a view of the Mersey from the river-facing windows.

While traditionally a savory stew, Liverpool also has a sweet version of Scouse made with dried fruits and spices, reflecting the city's historic port trade. It is sometimes served with sugar rather than salt.

This sticky ginger cake made with oats and black treacle is a regional favorite across Lancashire, including Liverpool. It is traditionally enjoyed on Bonfire Night but beloved year-round.

A lesser known but classic local dessert, the Liverpool Tart is a simple shortcrust pastry filled with jam and topped with a coconut and sugar mixture. It was a school dinner staple for generations of Liverpudlians.

Scouse is a hearty lamb or beef stew with potatoes, carrots, and onions that gave Liverpudlians their famous nickname "Scousers." It was traditionally made by poor families using the cheapest cuts of meat and whatever vegetables were available.

Despite its unappealing name, Wet Nelly is a classic Liverpool bread pudding made with stale bread, dried fruit, and spices, soaked in milk and baked. It was created as a way to use up leftovers and avoid food waste.

Liverpool's proximity to the Irish Sea made it a hub for fresh fish, and the city has a storied tradition of fish and chip shops. The dish became a working class staple in Liverpool during the Industrial Revolution and remains iconic today.

Creamy soda is a uniquely Liverpudlian fizzy drink with a vanilla and butterscotch flavor, often compared to American cream soda but sweeter. It was first introduced by local bottlers in the early 20th century and remains a nostalgic favorite.

This strong, dark tea blend was a Liverpool institution, famously served at the now closed Bibby's Cafe on the legendary Scotland Road. It was known for its almost syrupy strength and was the drink of choice for dock workers.

Liverpool has a booming craft gin scene, distilling spirits that honor the city's maritime history. Many local gins feature botanicals like sea buckthorn and lavender, inspired by the coastline and gardens of Merseyside.

Really loved the energy around the Albert Dock area. Great mix of museums and places to grab a drink.
Found it hit or miss. Some parts felt really lively but others were a bit rundown and sad honestly.
Get the bus or train from the airport instead of a taxi. Half the price and the station is right by the terminals.
Thought the food scene would be boring but was totally wrong. Some incredible restaurants near Bold Street.
Skip the overpriced restaurants right on the docks. Walk up to Berry Street and eat at the little Turkish place there instead.
