- For the best photos of the Kalta Minor minaret, shoot from the northwest corner of the Ichan Kala wall at golden hour.
- Skip climbing all the way up the Islam Khodja minaret unless you want 118 very narrow, steep steps with no railings.
- Buy souvenirs from the workshop cooperatives near the West Gate, they cost half what merchants charge inside the main square.
- Wear closed-toe shoes for climbing the uneven mud-brick staircases of the city walls and watch your head in 15th-century doorways designed for shorter people.
