Visit in the late afternoon on a weekday to catch the golden light over the valley and dodge the weekend tour crowds. Spring and early autumn offer the most comfortable walking weather on the steep cobbled streets.

Entry to the castle grounds and bazaar is free; only the Skanderbeg Museum charges an admission fee of about 500 lek. Combine the museum ticket with a walk through the bazaar stalls below, where bargaining is expected and souvenirs cost far less than in Tirana.

Fakte të shpejta: Kalaja shërbeu si fortesë e Skënderbeut, heroit kombëtar të Shqipërisë, i cili i mbajti forcat osmane larg për më shumë se dy dekada në shekullin e 15-të. Muret e saj prej guri qëndrojnë ende mbi qytetin e Krujës, me rrugën e pazarit të epokës osmane që kalon pikërisht poshtë portave të kalasë.

Pikat kryesore: Vizitorët mund të shohin helmetën dhe shpatën origjinale prej bronzi të Skënderbeut, secila me peshë disa kilogramë, të ekspozuara në muzeun në vend që u ndërtua në vitin 1982. Tarraca panoramike e kalasë shikon mbi kodrat e rrokullisura ku, sipas tregimeve lokale, barinjtë dikur sinjalizonin lëvizjet e trupave të Skënderbeut duke përdorur tym gjatë ditës dhe zjarr gjatë natës.

Arrive before 10 AM on summer weekends to get parking closer to the entrance and avoid the midday crush.
