Fakte të shpejta: The High Town was medieval Minsk's political and religious heart, where the city council and wealthy merchants settled. Three former city gates still stand here: the Resurrection Church gate, the Bernardine convent gate, and the Holy Spirit Cathedral bell tower gate.
Pikat kryesore: At the eastern edge of the square stands a red brick town hall reconstructed in 2004, exactly where the original was built after Minsk received Magdeburg rights in 1499. If you stand at the town hall steps at noon, you might catch a small reenactment of the city's medieval trumpet signal that once opened the market days.
Këshilla të brendshme
- Skip the tourist restaurants on the main square and walk two blocks down to Zybitskaya Street for better local food at half the price.
- The best photo spot is from the bell tower of the Holy Spirit Cathedral, which costs 3 BYN and gives a 360 degree view of the entire district.
- Wear comfortable walking shoes: the cobblestones are authentic 19th century and get slippery after rain.
- Check if there's a festival happening at the Town Hall square on weekends, they often have free craft markets and live folk music.
