Late afternoon on weekdays for the quietest stroll. Come during Gentse Feesten in July for free concerts and performances scattered through the park.

Këshilla për buxhetin

The park itself is free to enter at all times. Many summer concerts hosted here are free or pay-what-you-can, so check the city's events calendar before you visit.

Rreth

Fakte të shpejta: Sprawling across 19 acres, this former World's Fair grounds from 1913 still has two original pavilions standing. Over 1,500 trees create a green canopy that shelters outdoor concerts, sculpture exhibitions, and a small castle-like structure from the 1880s.

Pikat kryesore: Tucked behind the main pathways, the 60-meter long Grotto van de Citadel is a man-made cave system built for the 1913 exposition, complete with artificial stalactites and a small waterfall. On summer evenings, the cave's entrance glows with colored lights during concerts, transforming the stone into something almost geological.

Këshilla të brendshme

  • Enter from the Koning Albertlaan side to see the grand entrance arches from 1913 first.
  • The Grotto is easiest to find by heading toward the small pond and looking for the stone archway behind the bushes.
  • Bring a blanket for lounging on the grass; benches fill up fast on sunny weekends.
  • Visit on a Sunday morning when the adjacent Citadelpark flea market spills into the park's edge.
