Fakte të shpejta: The museum's collection spans 5,000 years of Nicosia's history, from the Chalcolithic period through to modern times. It won the Council of Europe Museum Prize in 1991, just seven years after opening its doors to the public.

Pikat kryesore: One gallery recreates a 1930s Nicosia street with actual shopfronts salvaged from the old city, complete with a traditional coffee shop you can walk through. The smell of old wood and the creak of floorboards underfoot make you feel like you've stepped back a century.

Don't skip the basement: the old stone cistern and kitchen display give a rare glimpse of how 19th-century Nicosia families actually lived.
The rooftop terrace offers a lovely view over the old city but is easy to miss, ask staff for access if the door appears locked.
Audio guides are included with entry and take about 90 minutes, but allow extra time if you linger over the 1930s street reconstruction.
Photography is allowed without flash throughout, so bring a camera for the intricate Ottoman-era woodwork and silver jewelry displays.
