Visit at sunrise (6-7 AM) for the first puja ceremony when drums and conch shells echo through the halls and the crowds are thinnest. December to February offers the most pleasant weather for exploring the grounds.

- Remove shoes before entering and store them at the free shoe stand near the main entrance, not with street vendors.
- Stand under the 500-year-old banyan tree in the northeast corner for the best angle of the gopuram without people in the frame.
- Skip visiting between 12-4 PM when the temple closes for the afternoon siesta, a tradition maintained for centuries.
