Koha më e mirë për të vizituar

Late spring (May-June) offers lush green undergrowth and mild temperatures. Visit in the early morning when the light filters through the canopy and Barbary macaques are most active.

Këshilla për buxhetin

Entry is free as the forest is public land. Bring your own picnic instead of relying on the limited snack vendors near the entrance.

Fakte të shpejta: Home to some of the oldest Atlas cedars in Morocco, these towering giants have stood watch over this forest for over 400 years. The forest spans roughly 1,500 hectares and sits at an elevation of about 1,700 meters, making it a cool high-altitude escape from the lowland heat.

Pikat kryesore: Look closely at the bark of the oldest cedars and you'll find centuries-old carvings left by shepherds and travelers, a living diary etched into the trees. One gnarled cedar nicknamed "Le Vieux" is estimated at over 800 years old, its massive trunk requiring over five people to circle it arm to arm.

Këshilla të brendshme

  • Wear sturdy hiking boots as the trails can get muddy and slippery after rain, especially near the stream beds.
  • The best photos come from the small clearing about 20 minutes into the main trail, where the sun breaks through the canopy.
  • Skip the main entrance area on weekends if you can; it gets crowded with families, but head 15 minutes deeper and you'll find peace.
  • Bring binoculars to spot the rare Barbary nuthatch, a small blue-backed bird found only in this region.
