Fakte të shpejta: This 5-hectare square becomes the city's center of celebration every year, attracting more than 50,000 residents on New Year's Eve. Its strategic position connects Karl Marx Street with Lenin Street, making it the zero kilometer point of the city of Irkutsk.
Pikat kryesore: In the middle of winter nights with temperatures of minus 30 degrees, the fountain here transforms into a giant ice sculpture illuminated by colorful lights during the annual snow festival. During summer, this area turns into an open stage for free concerts that draw up to 10,000 spectators sitting on the grass.
Këshilla të brendshme
- Come during lunchtime to see newlyweds taking photos with the fountain as a backdrop, an authentic local sight.
- Wear non-slip shoes if you come in winter because the granite stones here are very slippery when covered in snow.
- Look for a park bench facing the Lenin statue for the best photos during the golden evening light.
- Ignore the souvenir shops on the edge of the square whose prices keep rising, better to shop at the central market which is only a 10-minute walk away.
