Fakte të shpejta: The castle's massive stone walls stretch over 100 meters along the Dardanelles strait, and its cannon platform still holds one of the world's largest bronze cannons from the 1400s. You can walk the same battlements where Ottoman soldiers once stood guard, with a clear view straight across to Kilitbahir Castle on the opposite shore.
Pikat kryesore: Inside the castle grounds sits a 500-year-old cannon named "Şahi" that was cast in bronze and could hurl a marble ball weighing over 300 kilograms nearly a mile. You can still see the original 1460s cannonballs scattered around the courtyard, some cracked from impact and embedded with sea salt after centuries by the strait.
Këshilla të brendshme
- Climb to the top of the main tower for the best panoramic shot of the Dardanelles strait and Kilitbahir Castle across the water.
- Visit the small on-site museum first to see the cannonball collection and maritime artifacts before exploring the ramparts.
- Wear sturdy shoes as the stone stairs inside the towers are steep, uneven, and can be slippery after rain.
- Skip the café inside; instead walk 5 minutes into Çanakkale town center for better and cheaper Turkish gözleme and tea.
