Kiired faktid: See kindlus võttis Suure Isamaasõja esimestel minutitel enda peale põhilöögi ning selle kaitsjad pidasid vastu peaaegu kuu aega ilma vee ja toiduta. Seinad on tänaseni täis kuuliauke ning üks sissepääsudest, Cholmi värav, särab söega poleeritud tellistest.
Esiletõstmised: Kindluse all ulatub 8 kilomeetri pikkune maa-aluste tunnelite võrgustik, mida mööda kaitsjad salaja bastionide vahel liikusid. 1965. aastal anti kindlusele „Kangelaskindluse" nimi, ainult kolm kohta kogu riigis kannavad sellist tiitlit.

- Bring water and snacks: the territory is huge, and there are few cafés inside.
- Photograph the Cholm Gate early in the morning, when there are no shadows and the light is best.
- Do not miss the Birch Alley, with unique Soviet memorials, and the silence surprises the most.
- If you want to avoid the crowds, avoid May 9th and June 22nd, as there are hundreds of people here on those days.
