Teave

Kiired faktid: The tower rising above the gate was used not only for defense but also as a windmill for grinding grain. The fortress walls are located just a few meters from the water, and during low tide you can see crabs sunbathing on the rocks around it.

Esiletõstmised: In the inner courtyard of the fortress, original clay cannonballs still stand, stacked in piles since the 18th century. They were never used; the defensive strategy relied not on firepower but on the layout of the walls so that the enemy would get stuck in narrow passages.

Sisekujunduse nõuanded

  • Before climbing up, stop by the small room under the stairs, where authentic weapons and ceramics are displayed.
  • You will get the best photo not from the fortress, but from the wooden bridge over the wadi leading to the entrance.
  • There is no air conditioning inside, so during the summer months choose morning hours or bring water with you.
  • Near the fortress there is a traditional boat workshop, worth a look before or after your visit.
