Entry costs 50 RMB per person. The Nanjing City Wall annual pass (100 RMB) covers Zhonghua Gate plus all other wall sections and is worth it if you plan to visit two or more segments. Skip the overpriced golf cart tour inside the gate complex , every interesting spot is walkable in 20 minutes.

Faits rapides: S'étendant sur plus de 35 kilomètres, cette ancienne fortification entourait autrefois une capitale impériale plus grande que Constantinople à son apogée. Ses murs de brique contiennent plus de 350 millions de briques individuelles, chacune estampillée du nom de l'ouvrier du four qui l'a fabriquée, un système de contrôle qualité médiéval qui tenait les bâtisseurs responsables.
Points forts: À la porte Zhonghua, vous pouvez traverser un complexe défensif à triple porte avec 27 cache-soldats souterrains cachés creusés dans les fondations, chacun assez grand pour stationner plus de 3 000 soldats au total. Depuis le sommet, regardez les trois énormes fentes de herse où les portes de fer tombaient pour piéger les armées ennemies dans une zone de mort entre les avant et arrière-barbacanes.
