Faits rapides: Le musée occupe un palais patricien du XVe siècle qui appartenait autrefois à la noble famille Grisogono, dont la cour en pierre porte encore des siècles de graffitis dalmates usés par le sel. Plus de 30 000 objets remplissent ses salles, des costumes folkloriques aux fils d'or complexes aux pressoirs à olives qui sentent le bois et l'huile ancienne.
Points forts: Nichée dans la galerie du dernier étage du musée se trouve une chambre à coucher complète de Split datant du XIXe siècle, dont le coffre de mariage peint à la main sent encore la lavande et la cire d'abeille des îles voisines. Les poutres du plafond en bois sont sculptées de symboles apotropaïques, de minuscules croix et d'yeux destinés à éloigner les mauvais esprits pendant que la famille dormait.
