- Acclimatize for at least 3 days in Quito (2,850m) before attempting the climb to avoid severe altitude sickness.
- The refuge at 4,800 meters offers basic bunk beds for $15, book ahead in high season to snag a spot.
- Skip the summit if clouds roll in after midnight, you'll get zero views and the real reward is the sunrise panorama.
