Meilleur moment pour visiter

Early morning, before the heat peaks and trail traffic picks up. After heavy rain the flow swells dramatically, so a day or two following a storm gives the fullest show.

Conseils budget

Entry is free, but a local guide costs around 2,000-3,000 XPF per person and is strongly recommended for the trickier upper sections. Bring your own water and snacks since nothing is sold along the trail, and a small tip for a registered guide is customary.

  • Wear sturdy hiking sandals or trail shoes with grip, since several rocky crossings get slick with moss
  • Stop at the second bridge for the widest view of all three tiers in a single frame
  • Skip the last scramble if the river is running high, the pool area floods quickly after storms
  • Start before 8 a.m. to beat the tour groups that arrive mid-morning
