Faits rapides: La colline s'élève à 286 mètres au-dessus du niveau de la mer et a servi de base d'entraînement naval majeure pour la dynastie Chola il y a des siècles. Sa forme unique rappelant une tête de souris a donné son nom à la région, dérivé des mots malayalam "ezhi" (souris) et "mala" (colline).
Points forts: Dissimulé dans la colline se trouve un ancien tunnel de 150 pieds appelé le "tunnel de Marmala", que les légendes locales disent avoir relié la colline au fort de Tipu Sultan à plusieurs kilomètres de là. Marchez dans l'obscurité avec seulement une lampe torche, et vous sentirez l'air frais changer en vous tenant dans un passage creusé à la main il y a plus de 300 ans.

- Bring a strong flashlight or headlamp for the Marmala Tunnel, phone lights won't cut it in the deeper sections.
- Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes, the trail gets slippery near the summit after any rain.
- The Naval Academy museum on the hill requires advance permission to enter, so skip it unless you've arranged a visit beforehand.
- Visit on a weekday morning to have the summit almost entirely to yourself, weekends draw crowds from nearby Kannur.
