Faits rapides: La vanille des plantations de la côte est, proposée ici par les étals, couvre environ 80 % de la production naturelle mondiale. Environ 300 commerçants y vendent épices, légumes, tissus de raphia et sculptures sur bois, et chaque prix peut se négocier jusqu'à la moitié.
Points forts: Dans la galerie latérale, une vente aux enchères de vanille se tient chaque matin, où le prix au gramme grimpe en l'espace d'une minute et où le gagnant paie en espèces sur place. Les sachets de vanille sont déposés sur une grande balance en métal et l'air embaume la vanille sucrée si fort que la tête en tourne.
