Faits rapides: Perchée sur un affleurement rocheux surplombant le golfe d'Oman, cette forteresse a été construite à l'origine par les Portugais dans les années 1580 pour protéger le port de Mascate. Ses tours jumelles et sa position spectaculaire sur la falaise abritaient autrefois des canons qui pouvaient tirer des coups de semonce à travers toute la baie.
Points forts: Contrairement à la plupart des forts qui ressemblent à des musées poussiéreux, celui-ci possède encore un pont-levis fonctionnel et les canons portugais d'origine pointés vers la mer. Empruntez les escaliers étroits jusqu'au toit au coucher du soleil et regardez les lumières de la ville s'allumer dans le port en contrebas.
