Faits rapides: Trois autels gothiques des XVe et XVIe siècles subsistent dans cette église luthérienne de Spišská Sobota, l'un des ensembles d'autels médiévaux les mieux conservés de Slovaquie. L'église se dresse sur une place qui accueillait autrefois des exécutions, avec un pilori encore visible à proximité.
Points forts: Le retable gothique principal culmine à 12 mètres de haut et comporte 126 figures détaillées sculptées dans du bois de tilleul, toutes originales de 1516. Les détails en feuille d'or brillent encore après 500 ans parce que l'église n'a jamais été pillée ni repeinte.

- Ask the caretaker to point out the carved mouse hiding among the figures on the main altar, a medieval sculptor's signature trick.
- Bring a small flashlight to examine the painted panels on the side altars, as some details are hard to see in the dim light.
- Climb the bell tower for a panoramic view of the High Tatras, but check ahead as it opens only on request.
- Visit the pillory outside in the square afterward and imagine the executions that once took place here.
