Une vieille légende raconte qu’un aviateur ottoman du XVIIe siècle nommé Hezarfen Ahmed Çelebi a sauté de la tour et a volé avec succès au-dessus du Bosphore en utilisant des ailes artisanales, marquant l’une des premières instances enregistrées de vol soutenu.
