À propos

Faits rapides: Genghis Khan found the 46-meter minaret so impressive that he spared it from destruction. The complex of three buildings has defined Bukhara's cityscape for more than 800 years.

Points forts: From the top of the minaret, the muezzin's voice could be heard up to 10 kilometers away in the desert silence. The tower's brickwork features 14 different geometric decorations, each revealing itself from a different direction.

Conseils d'initiés

  • It is worth returning before sunset, when the brick facade of the minaret turns orange.
  • Women cannot enter the Mir-i-Arab Madrasa, but the view of the inner courtyard is beautiful even from the entrance.
  • Before 8 AM there is almost no one in the square, so you do not have to wait for tourists to clear out of your photos.
  • A note for visitors wearing sandals: the stones can be hot during the midday hours in summer.
