Faits rapides: Plus de 250 000 objets figurent dans les collections, des outils de l'âge de pierre aux magnifiques textiles du XIXe siècle. L'un des objets les plus fascinants du musée est un chaudron de bronze vieux de 2 000 ans du royaume gréco-bactrien.
Points forts: Une salle entière est dédiée aux fresques du palais d'Afrasiab, où une scène colorée de 7 mètres de long montre une procession de chevaux, de chameaux et de dignitaires étrangers du VIIe siècle. Les fresques ne furent découvertes qu'en 1965 et sont considérées comme l'une des découvertes archéologiques les plus importantes d'Asie centrale.

- Ask the staff to turn on the light in the display case with the gold jewelry from the Amu Darya treasure, otherwise the details are not visible.
- The third floor with the ethnographic department is often forgotten but has the most beautiful textiles and embroideries.
- Combine the visit with a walk up to the observation platform for a panoramic view of the city.
- Bring your own headphones for the audio guide, the borrowed ones are of varying quality.
