À propos
Faits rapides: Over 30 ethnic minority performers bring centuries-old traditions to life in a single 45-minute show. Each dance tells a story rooted in daily mountain life, from rice planting to courting rituals.
Points forts: Unlike staged tourist shows, these performers are actual villagers from nearby Hmong, Red Dao, and Tay communities who learned these dances from their grandparents. The gong orchestra uses bronze instruments cast using techniques passed down through 12 generations, producing a deep, resonant hum you can feel in your chest.
Conseils d'initiés
- Arrive 20 minutes early to grab a front-row seat where you can see the intricate embroidery on the performers' costumes up close.
- Bring a light jacket: the performance hall can get chilly even in warmer months with the mountain air seeping through.
- Skip the flash photography as it distracts performers; low-light cameras or phone night mode work beautifully instead.
- Stick around after the show ends: performers often pose for photos and you can ask about their traditional clothing.
