Brze činjenice: Each year on New Year's Day, 25,000 spectators pack into this stadium to watch ski jumpers soar over 140 meters through the air. The 60-meter-high tower and terraces were carved directly into the Gudiberg mountain slope for the 1936 Winter Olympics.

Istaknuto: On New Year's morning, the entire valley fills with the roar of 25,000 fans as ski jumpers launch off the floodlit ramp at speeds over 90 km/h. The stadium was sculpted into the mountainside using 40,000 cubic meters of local stone, giving it the feel of an ancient amphitheater carved for winter sport rituals.

• Walk to the top of the jump tower for a vertigo-inducing view straight down the ramp and across the entire Garmisch valley.
• Arrive at least 2 hours early on event days; parking fills by 9 AM and the walk from town takes 30 minutes uphill.
• Visit during summer for a completely different perspective, the green Alpine meadow landing hill is surprisingly beautiful.
• The Olympic ice rink next door is open to the public for skating when no competitions are running.
