Istaknuto: Mračna crkva dobila je ime jer gotovo da nema prozora, a upravo je ta vječna tmina razlog zašto su njezine biblijske freske iz 11. stoljeća preživjele u tako besprijekornom stanju. Jedan jedini mlaz prirodnog svjetla pogađa oslikanu kupolu s Kristom Pantokratorom pod savršenim kutom, čineći da zlatni oreoli zasjaju na tamnoplavoj pozadini.

- Visit the Apple Church and Snake Church early in your walk before crowds cluster in the narrow corridors between chapels.
- Wear comfortable shoes with good grip, the carved stone pathways and steep stair climbs between chapels can be slippery.
- Photography inside the chapels is often restricted, but you can capture excellent exterior shots of the rock-cut facades from the upper pathway.
