Penipuan wisata di Czechia: cara menghindarinya

Czechia is generally safe and welcoming for tourists, with a violent-crime score of 7 out of 10 and a functioning police presence in city centres. The main risks are opportunistic: overcharging taxis, poor exchange rates at tourist-area booths, and pickpocketing in crowded tram and metro areas. Watch your belongings on public transport and always use official or app-based taxis.

1. Unlicensed airport taxi drivers
Cara kerjanya: Drivers approach arriving passengers inside or just outside the terminal and offer rides at inflated flat rates, sometimes 2 to 3 times the official fare. They have no meter and no official license.
Cara menghindarinya: Use the official taxi rank outside arrivals or book via Bolt, Uber or Liftago. Never accept rides offered inside the terminal.
2. Poor-rate exchange booths
Cara kerjanya: Exchange booths near Wenceslas Square and Old Town advertise zero commission but give rates far below the market rate, or apply hidden spreads. Some display rates only in small print.
Cara menghindarinya: Use bank ATMs or major banks for currency exchange. Compare the displayed rate to the mid-market rate. Avoid booths with signs saying no commission.
3. Tourist-menu overcharging
Cara kerjanya: Some restaurants near Old Town Square serve tourists menus with inflated prices or add a service charge not shown on the menu. Bills may include items you did not order.
Cara menghindarinya: Check the menu has prices before sitting down. Review the bill item by item. Report discrepancies to the Czech Trade Inspection Authority if needed.
4. Pickpocketing in crowds
Cara kerjanya: Groups work crowded trams, the metro and tourist areas. One distracts while another lifts wallets or phones from bags and pockets, especially during rush hours and at major sights.
Cara menghindarinya: Keep bags zipped and in front of you. Avoid back pockets. Stay alert on the metro escalators at Muzeum and Můstek stations.
5. Ticket validation trap for tourists
Cara kerjanya: Tourists buy tickets but do not validate them in the yellow boxes before boarding. Inspectors issue fines on the spot, and tourists often assume the fine is a scam. It is a legitimate enforcement practice.

Tips dan biaya layanan
Tip: Round up taxi fares. In restaurants 5-10% is common for good service. Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory. In bars, rounding up is normal.
