Pescador Island & Moalboal Sardine Run (Moalboal, Cebu)
Best time to visit
Early morning during the dry season, roughly November to May, for calm seas and the best underwater visibility; afternoons tend to attract more boats and crowds.
Budget tips
Expect a small marine sanctuary fee around 150–250 PHP and boat rides or guided trips from 400–1,000 PHP per person depending on group size; rent snorkeling gear locally for about 150–300 PHP or join a shared boat to cut costs, and bring cash as remote operators often prefer it.

About
Fakta singkat: Snorkelers can drift through a living curtain of silvery fish that stretches for hundreds of meters, producing a shimmering, pulsating wave of light. A coral wall drops to around 40 meters, where hawksbill and green turtles weave through bouquets of bright orange and purple hard coral.
Sorotan: You can watch shoals compact into corkscrew formations so dense that divers and sonar detect bands over 500 meters long, and freedivers slip into the gaps like ghostly shadows among the fish. Bioluminescent plankton make every kick trail glow neon blue, and some guides point out a resident turtle nicknamed 'Lola' who returns to the same ledge every week.
Insider tips
- Wear a rashguard and reef-safe sunscreen to protect skin and the coral.
- Bring an underwater camera or GoPro with a wide-angle lens for the sardine cloud shots and shoot from below looking up.
- Choose morning departures to avoid the busiest boat traffic around Pescador Island and get calmer water for snorkelers.
- If prone to seasickness, take medication beforehand and book a larger bangka or join a group boat for a steadier ride.
