Tentang

Fakta cepat: Stretching over 1.2 kilometers, these medieval fortifications once wrapped the entire old town in a protective stone embrace. Nearly 80 percent of the original walls remain intact, making them one of the best-preserved town wall systems in Slovakia.

Sorotan: Unlike most medieval walls that were torn down for urban development, these survived because locals converted sections into the back walls of their homes and gardens. Walk along the narrow path beside them and you can still spot original arrow slits and a 16th-century Renaissance bastion with walls over two meters thick.

Tips orang dalam

  • Start at the Mihal Tower, the only preserved gate tower, then walk counterclockwise for the best views of the bastion.
  • Bring comfortable walking shoes: the path alongside the walls is a mix of paved sidewalks and uneven gravel sections.
  • Visit in late afternoon when the light hits the stone facades and the crowds from the morning tours have dispersed.
  • Combine your walk with a stop at the nearby Skalica town square, just a two-minute walk from the walls.
