Best time to visit

Early morning before 9:00 for soft light and far fewer visitors; alternatively arrive 30–45 minutes before sunset for dramatic silhouettes, but expect larger crowds.

Budget tips

Entry is about 100 THB for foreign visitors, Thai nationals often pay less or enter free; pay on site in cash or card and keep small notes for boat fares. Save by viewing the temple exterior from the opposite riverbank at night, and use a Chao Phraya Express or daily riverpass to cut transport costs.

About

Insider tips

  • Wear clothing that covers shoulders and knees to respect temple rules and avoid being turned away from shrine areas.
  • Use the ferry from Tha Tien to the opposite bank for the best photo compositions of the prang and river, especially at sunset.
  • Take care on the steep, uneven central steps, wear sturdy shoes and hold the railing, avoid backpacks when climbing.
  • Combine with Wat Pho and the Grand Palace via river taxi to minimise walking and queue time at each site.

Arrived at 7:30am and had very few people; 100 baht entry was fair. Climbing the central prang for the city view was totally worth it, skip the pricey souvenir stalls.

Went around 2pm and it was packed, long wait to climb. 100 baht plus ferry fee, stunning architecture but not worth the crowd and limited photo spots.
