Fatti rapidi: Il re Massimiliano II scelse questo castello come sua residenza estiva e lo fece ricostruire in stile romantico. Suo figlio, Ludovico II, trascorse qui gran parte della sua infanzia e in seguito da qui osservò la costruzione del vicino Neuschwanstein.

Punti salienti: Nella sala dei cavalieri sono appesi enormi affreschi murali che raffigurano la leggenda del cavaliere del cigno Lohengrin, che ispirò Wagner per la sua famosa opera.
