The best things to do in Bodrum, Turkey begin with Bodrum Castle, a 15th century fortress housing the Museum of Underwater Archaeology with artifacts from ancient shipwrecks. Walk 10 minutes uphill to the 5,000-seat Bodrum Amphitheater, carved into the hillside overlooking the glittering Aegean Sea and marina below.

Bodrum Castle

A castle built with stones from one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Explore towers named for medieval knights and a shipwreck that sank 3,300 years ago.

Greiti faktai: Tucked along Bodrum's waterfront, this 15th-century fortress was built by the Knights Hospitaller using stones from the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Its towers bear the names of four European nations , France, England, Italy, and Germany , each reflecting the architectural style of their sponsors.

Akcentai: Visitors walk directly on ancient Greek marble blocks from the Mausoleum, seamlessly embedded into castle walls and pathways. Inside the Museum of Underwater Archaeology, you can see the Uluburun shipwreck's cargo: a 3,300-year-old time capsule of copper ingots, Canaanite jewelry, and even a golden scarab belonging to Egypt's Queen Nefertiti.

One of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world, now scattered across a quiet hillside. You will trace original marble fragments with your fingers while standing exactly where the 45-meter tomb once pierced the sky.

Greiti faktai: Four ancient Greek sculptors each took one side of the monument, making it a friendly competition carved in stone. The structure stood 45 meters tall, roughly the height of a 14-story building, and its name gave us the modern word "mausoleum" for any grand tomb.

Akcentai: The monument was topped with a massive marble chariot pulled by four horses, large enough that a person could stand inside the chariot. The surviving sculpted lion one of only a handful of pieces left is so lifelike you can nearly see its ribs move as it breathes.

Watch a sunset concert where 2,300-year-old stone seats meet the Mediterranean Sea. Climb to the top row for a postcard view of Bodrum Castle glowing gold below.

Greiti faktai: Carved directly into the hillside, this ancient theater once held 13,000 spectators who watched everything from gladiator fights to sea battles staged in the flooded orchestra pit. Its position on the slope means the top rows offer a stunning side view of Bodrum's castle and harbor far below.

Akcentai: Unlike most ancient theaters that sit isolated in ruins, this one sits right inside modern Bodrum with local apartment buildings peeking over its top edge, creating a surreal blend of 2,300-year-old stones and everyday Turkish life. During summer concerts, you can hear live music echoing through the same limestone seats where ancient audiences once roared.

Gümbet Beach

Swap Bodrum's party crowds for a relaxed shore where the water stays shallow for what feels like miles. Sip fresh-squeezed orange juice under a striped sunshade while windsurfers glide across the turquoise bay.

Greiti faktai: Just a 15-minute dolmuş ride from central Bodrum, this sandy stretch along the peninsula's northern coast stays calmer than its famous neighbor. Local families and windsurfing regulars gather here for the shallow, crystal-clear water that stays bath-warm through late summer.

Akcentai: Most visitors don't realize that the bay's gentle winds and flat water make it one of the top learning spots for windsurfing and wing foiling in the entire Aegean, with rental gear available right on the sand. You can stand waist-deep a hundred meters out, thanks to the unusually gradual seabed slope that creates a natural wading playground.

Bardakçı Beach

5. Bardakçı Beach

4.2 (489)
PaplūdimysGamtinė vietovėĮstaiga

Swap Bodrum's crowded club beaches for a calm cove with water so clear you see fish swimming around your ankles. Sip fresh-squeezed pomegranate juice on a shaded pebble terrace while the castle looms across the bay.

Paplūdimys pavadintas pagal stiklo pūtėjus, kurie kadaise dirbo šiame krante, o to amato pėdsakų vis dar galima rasti netoliese esančiose stiklo dirbtuvėse.

Akcentai: Saulėlydžio metu vanduo įgauna beveik elektrinį turkio atspalvį, o pilies šviesos atsispindi paviršiuje kaip išbarstyti brangakmeniai. Galite bristi 30 metrų ir vis dar būti tik iki juosmens, po kojomis justi smulkų smėlį, kol žvejų valtys tyliai stovi inkaruose.

Myndos Gate

Stand in the same spot where Alexander the Great breached the walls of ancient Halicarnassus. Walk through original 2,300-year-old stone tunnels and see genuine chariot wheel ruts worn into the marble street.

Greiti faktai: This 4th century BC stone gateway once guarded the 7-kilometer-long walls of ancient Halicarnassus, the original name for Bodrum. The marble blocks were so precisely cut that they fit together without any mortar, and deep wheel ruts still visible in the street stones show where chariots passed through.

Akcentai: Look closely at the southern tower and you will spot nearly 200 ancient graffiti carvings left by soldiers and mercenaries who guarded this gate 2,300 years ago. Among the scratchings are warship etchings and a rare Phoenician inscription, a direct message from a homesick guard stationed far from his homeland.

Step inside the preserved pink villa where Turkey's most beloved singer lived, loved and created. You'll wander through rooms frozen in time, from his gold-record walls to the garden where he fed stray cats daily.

Greiti faktai: Behind glass lies the original sapphire-studded stage costume of Turkey's most celebrated singer, complete with his trademark wig and makeup table exactly as he left them. The museum occupies the modest pink house where Zeki Müren spent his final 15 summers, and his unreleased recordings still play softly through hidden speakers in each room.

Akcentai: Visitors can stand in the actual bathroom where Müren would spend three hours preparing before performances, his 400-plus pairs of sunglasses still stacked in cabinets nearby. His original Renault car sits in the garden with the odometer reading exactly 22,487 kilometers, the distance he drove between Bodrum and Istanbul over those 15 summers.

Skip the crowds and explore a real medieval fortress slowly being reclaimed by the Aegean wilderness. You'll scramble over ancient stone blocks, trace a towering 200-meter wall, and take in sweeping coastal views without a single souvenir stand in sight.

Greiti faktai: Perched on a rocky peninsula jutting into the Aegean, this fortress was originally built by the Knights of St. John in the 15th century using stones scavenged from the ruins of the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Its current form features a single surviving 200-meter-long wall rising dramatically from the hillside, with the rest reclaimed by wild olive trees and scrub brush over centuries of abandonment.

Akcentai: Unlike Bodrum's polished Castle of St. Peter, this ruin remains completely untouched and un-restored , you can run your fingers over the same rough-hewn limestone blocks the knights laid down 600 years ago. Climb to the top of the remaining wall at sunset and you'll catch the golden light hitting the battlements while goats wander through the scattered stone blocks below, exactly as they have for generations.

Swap Bodrum's crowded town beach for a wide sandy sweep with genuinely calm, clear water. Settle into a sunbed, wade out 30 meters in knee-deep water, and watch the sun sink behind the distant Greek islands.

Greiti faktai: Powdery golden sand stretches for nearly a kilometer along this popular stretch of Bodrum's coastline. The water stays shallow for a good 30 meters out, making it one of the safest swimming spots for families.

Akcentai: Unlike Bodrum's rocky coves, this beach offers natural golden sand that locals swear by for its gentle slope into the sea. On calm mornings, the turquoise water stays so still that small fishing boats appear to float suspended in midair.

Honestly a bit overrated. Crowded as hell in July and the water is nice but nothing special compared to other Turkish coast towns.

Came in August and the heat was brutal. Couldn't walk outside between 11 and 4. Beautiful place but pick your season wisely.

The bazaar is fun for 20 minutes then it's just the same fake bags and pushy sellers. Not worth more than a quick walk through.

Best time to go is late September. Still warm enough to swim, barely any crowds, and prices drop significantly.

What a vibe this place has. Spent 4 days in Bodrum and honestly could've stayed a week. The castle at sunset was unreal.
