Raske fakta: Bare en håndfull kvinner styrte noensinne det gamle Nil-riket som fullverdige faraoer, og denne dronningen regjerte i 22 triumferende år. Monumentet hennes stabler tre søyleomkransede terrasser mot en klippe på nesten 300 meter som ruver over ørkenbunnen.
Høydepunkter: Hennes øverste forvalter Senenmut skar i all hemmelighet et lite selvportrett inn i en søyle inne i en døråpning, så han kunne vokte over dronningen sin for all evighet. Falmede spor av blå og rød maling på relieffene antyder at hele komplekset en gang flammet av livlige farger.

- Queue before the gates open and walk straight to the top terrace before tour groups arrive.
- A broad-brimmed hat and two full water bottles are non-negotiable, the ramps offer zero shade by late morning.
- Stand at the second terrace railing on the south end for the classic symmetric facade shot with the cliff behind.
- Ask a site guard to point out the concealed likeness, it is tiny and easy to walk right past.
